Calling all MCHS girls golfers

Girls entering grades 9-12 interested in playing golf at Michigan City High School this fall should contact head coach Drew White at 861-3804. All players must have an IHSAA physical and other necessary forms completed and turned in to the MCHS Athletic Department prior to the first day of practice Aug. 2. Forms are available in the athletic department.

Ott, Thompson in Underclass Showcase

La Porte’s Ryin Ott and Michigan City’s Trinity Thompson will participate in the IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase on Monday at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Action will begin at 1 p.m. and last until about 6:45.

Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 240 of the top basketball prospects (120 boys and 117 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation. The showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $5 per person per day. IBCA-member coaches will be admitted at no charge by showing their IBCA membership card.

Drifters Golf Outing Friday

The Michigan City Drifters Scholarship 9 Hole Women’s Golf Play Day for all skill levels will be Friday at the M.C. Municipal Course. Cost is $50 per golfer or $200 per team. The fee includes lunch with games at every hole. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30. There is a $20 donation for lunch (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) with access to women-owned business vendors. The Drifters will also award its annual scholarships to high school seniors showcasing leadership, community service and academics. Grand Prix Golf Outing July 31

The Great Lakes Grand Prix Golf Outing, sponsored by the Visit Michigan City LaPorte tourism bureau, will be July 31 at the Michigan City Municipal Golf Course. Lunch from Jimmy John’s will be at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Cost is $100 per player or $400 per foursome with drinks and prizes included. Hole sponsorships are available for $100. Proceeds benefit Reins of Life, a not-for-profit organization that serves children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted activities. New Prairie Ironmen 12U baseball tryouts

The New Prairie Ironmen 12U baseball team will host tryouts for the 2019-20 season at 5:30 p.m. on July 25 and July 29 at Prairie View Elementary. If interested in a tryout, pre-register by emailing the following to name, birth date, prior team (if any), position(s) played, bats R/L, throws R/L, parents’ names, email address and phone number.

The team will carry 11 players next season and plans to travel three to four times overnight with the majority of the tournaments within driving distance. A significant amount of fundraising is done to defray costs. Indoor training begins in late November with indoor practice in the winter and spring. The schedule includes 10 to 12 tourneys, including most holidays (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day, etc.), and runs through July.

La Porte Crush Baseball tryouts

La Porte Crush Baseball will hold tryouts for the following 2020 season teams: 10U – 2-4 p.m., July 27, 6:30-8, July 29; 12U – 10 a.m.-noon, July 27-28; and 13U – 6-7, July 28. All tryouts will be at County Road 2322 North 100 West, La Porte. Arrive early to register and warm up. Tryouts will begin promptly at the stated start time. Players must not be older than the age group they are trying out for as of April 30, 2020.
