Indiana Boys All-Stars drub Kentucky

The Indiana Boys All-Stars thumped Kentucky 97-64 in Friday night’s All-Star Game at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Valparaiso High School’s Brandon Newman paced Indiana with 18 points, followed by Zionsville High School’s Isaiah Thompson with 17 points. Mr. Basketball Trayce Jackson-Davis of Center Grove High School scored 16. J.J. Kalakon led Kentucky with nine points. Indiana was ahead 48-26 at the break.

MC boys soccer open field/conditioning underway

Open fields and conditioning for Michigan City High School boys soccer will be held during the summer on Mondays through Thursdays. All incoming freshmen through seniors are welcome. MC hosts Future Wolves Camps 

Michigan City High School will host Future Wolves Camps for boys and girls basketball (Monday-Wednesday), boys and girls soccer (Monday-Thursday), and boys and girls tennis (June 17-19). The camps, to be conducted by the various varsity coaches, will all be held at the high school. Camps are open to kids going into grades K-8. Dunes Volleyball Club Pre-Tryout Camp

Dunes Volleyball Club is offering a Pre-Tryout Camp designed to prepare middle school players for school tryouts. Campers will work on basic fundamentals; passing, setting, hitting, serving and participate in tryout-oriented drills, game situation drills, and 6-on-6 games. The camp is at the Dunes Events Center, 110 Clear Lake Blvd., La Porte, from July 29-Aug. 1. The Veterans Camp is for girls and boys entering the seventh-eighth grade and is from 5:30-8 p.m. Pre-registration discount costs $65. Same day sign-up costs $75. The Rookies Camp is for girls and boys entering the fifth-sixth grade and is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Pre-registration discount costs $55. Same day sign-up costs $65.

Dunes Volleyball Club is offering a Young Guns Camp designed to introduce volleyball to younger players by teaching the skills of ball handling, hitting and serving. Lighter volleyballs and lower nets are used, emphasizing teamwork, hustle and fun. The camp is open to girls and boys ages 10 and under and is at the Dunes Events Center, 110 Clear Lake Blvd., La Porte, from July 29-Aug. 1. The Big Dogs Camp is from 5:30-6:45 p.m. and is for ages 10 and under. Pre-registration discount costs $50. Same-day sign-up costs $55. The Volley Tots Camp is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and is for ages 8 and under. Pre-registration discount costs $30. Same-day sign-up costs $35. The Volley Tikes Camp is from 5:30-6:15 p.m. and is for ages 5 and under. Pre-registration discount costs $20. Same-day sign-up costs $25.

Dunes Club beach volleyball clinic, leagues

Dunes Volleyball Club is offering a beach volleyball clinic and leagues. No prior experience is needed. The clinic and leagues will be at the Dunes Events Center, 110 Clear Lake Blvd., La Porte.

Youth Development Skills Clinic is for players grades 8 and under who want to improve their overall skill while also learning the mechanics of the outdoor game. It’s Mondays and Thursdays, June 10-June 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $15/night or $40/full session. A similar clinic for fifth-graders and under are Mondays, June 10-June 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. Cost is $15/night or $30/full session. A second session in July will be announced.

The High School Sand Quads League is for any player (male/female) who wishes to play either with friends or be placed on a team. It’s on Tuesdays from June 11-July 30 5:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $40/person for a full session.

The Adult Sand Quads League is for any player (male/female) 18 or older who wishes to play either with friends or be placed on a team. It’s on Wednesdays, June 12-July 31. Timeslot range is 5:30-7:45 p.m. Cost is $40/person for a full session. Register online at www.dunes.org.

McLain to appear in Three Oaks

The Biggest Little Baseball Museum and the Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, Mich., will host Denny McLain, baseball’s last 30-game winner, on June 22. The former Detroit Tiger, who won the American League MVP and Cy Young awards in 1968, when he went 31-6, will conduct an autograph session at the museum, located at 3 N. Elm St., from 9-11 a.m. At 11:30, he will appear on stage at the nearby Acorn Theater, where he will reminisce with fans about his teammates and the ‘68 world championship season. The presentation will be followed by another autograph session in the theater lobby. The $10 theater admission price includes a hot dog, unlimited soft drinks, and a box of Cracker Jack. There will also be a cash bar. Tickets are available on the Acorn website at www.acornlive.org.

Drifters Golf Outing July 19

The Michigan City Drifters Scholarship 9 Hole Women’s Golf Play Day for all skill levels will be July 19 at the M.C. Municipal Course. Cost is $50 per golfer of $200 per team. The fee includes lunch with games at every hole. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30. There is a $20 donation for lunch (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) with access to women-owned business vendors. The Drifters will also award its annual scholarships to high school seniors showcasing leadership, community service and academics.
