Suzanne K. Burns, 73, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019, at her home in La Porte, Indiana.

Suzanne was born May 23, 1946, in La Porte, the daughter of Charles T. Zila Sr. and Audrey M. (Rozean) Zila. On Oct. 7, 1970, she married Richard Corwin Burns, who preceded her in death, July 2, 1996.

Sue was a unique and remarkable woman, who was known for her generosity and infectious laughter. She enjoyed life and spending time with friends and family.

Sue dedicated her life to serving others in the Westville Lions Club, Ag in the Class, Farm Bureau, and 4-H. Her love of nature was seen in her dedication to gardening and becoming a Master Gardener. Sue worked for the Indiana Toll Road for more than 36 years as a toll taker and first woman supervisor.

Sue showed love, compassion and tenderness to her children and adored her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Brian (Sasha Pinto) Burns of La Porte, Indiana; daughter, Karen (Dan) Burns-Smith of Bloomington, Indiana; sister, Kathy (Aldon) Howard of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and four grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Jordan Smith, Lexi Burns and Mia Burns. Sue was preceded in death by both her parents and one dog, Dallas.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Red Mill County Park, 0185 South Holmesville Road, La Porte, IN 46350 at the Pat J. Smith Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. (CT).
