Dennis A. Kado, 98, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 6:47 a.m. in Trail Creek Place, Michigan City, Indiana.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, Indiana, with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday evening in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, and from 9:15 to 10 a.m. in the Queen of all Saints Catholic Church Legacy Center. A Wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel and full military services will be conducted Tuesday in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
He was born May 19, 1921 in Hebron, Indiana, to the late John and Mary (Buckowski) Kado. On Oct. 24, 1946, in Valparaiso, Indiana, he married Helen Marcinkowski, who preceded him on Nov. 30, 2009. Surviving are daughter, Patricia (Joseph Kellerman) Money of Michiana Shores, Indiana; and caregiving friend Bert Clouse of La Porte, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Kado-Vann; four brothers, John Jr., Edward, Louis and Joseph Kado; along with two sisters, Gertrude Tickfer, Florence Kado.
Mr. Kado was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. He retired from U.S. Steel after 31 years as a Skull Cracker operator. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 0295 of Union Mills, Indiana, and enjoyed wood-working.
