Thomas O. Weaver was born in Goshen, Indiana, March 6, 1927, to Thelma Messick and Orin (Buck) Weaver and moved with his family to La Porte. His mother, Thelma Weaver, created a popular radio program called “Cookbook of the Air” that was aired daily on WLOI in the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s in La Porte.

Tom graduated from La Porte High School near the end of World War II, was inducted into the U.S. Army and was sent to Germany. When he got home, he attended and graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
