Cathy L. Vongsrisart, 65, was arrested on an A misdemeanor charge of trespass after being caught sleeping on a bench inside the Visitor Center in the 4000 block of Franklin Street and refusing to leave. She was later charged with an A misdemeanor for resisting law enforcement for yelling, striking and struggling against officers.
A 9 mm, black, 3-inch barrel Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun was reported stolen from the glove box of the vehicle parked in the 600 block of Warnke Drive at 6:30 a.m. The gun was fully loaded with a 7-round magazine holding hollow point bullets.
Approximately $15,000 was reported stolen from a safe in the 300 block of Benton. It was later determined one of the family members took the money, and about $9,600 was recovered, hidden in various areas throughout the home.
A stolen Enterprise vehicle was recovered in the 3500 block of E. Michigan Blvd. The vehicle was apparently not reported as recovered by Enterprise and the vehicle was rented out again.
Attempted armed robbery by a 23-year-old male suspect wearing a red and white monster mask was reported in the 1100 block of Providence at 2:50 p.m.
A Dodge Ram was reported stolen from the South Shore Carroll Avenue parking lot at 3:10 p.m. The theft was reported when the owner returned from Chicago.
Intimidation involving harrassment received by a case worker from the Department of Child Services was reported at 3 p.m. The issue reportedly revolves around a mother upset over the removal of her children by the case worker.
A 2001 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen from the 700 block of Franklin Street at 4:34 p.m.
A counterfeit $100 bill was reportedly used at Steak & Shake at 7:45 p.m.
A black and white pit bull was reported stolen from the front yard of a house in the 1700 block of E. Michigan Boulevard. A witness reportedly saw a younger white female put the pit bull into her silver SUV and drive away.
A 71-year-old woman was found lying in her own waste in front of the entry door of her home in the 400 block of York Street at 9 a.m., and had apparently been lying there since the previous day. She claimed to be sleeping there because her bed was covered. She was transported to Franciscan Health Michigan City for treatment.
Daniel Brooks Humphrey, 61, of Michigan City was arrested on an outstanding La Porte County warrant for possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.
