Water Department to begin hydrant flushing

MICHIGAN CITY – The Michigan City Department of Water Works will begin its semi-annual fire hydrant flushing on Tuesday, Sept. 3, to ensure hydrants are in proper working order for the fall and winter months.

The flushing should take about eight weeks to complete. Any customers who experience discoloration in their water during this time should let the water run for a short time and it will clear.

 

Closed meeting for Redevelopment Commission

MICHIGAN CITY – The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission will meet in closed session at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Planning Conference Room at City Hall, 100 E. Michigan Blvd. The agenda for the executive session includes discussion of pending litigation, and purchase or lease of real property.

 

MCHS to honor Bruemmer with courts

MICHIGAN CITY – A ceremony to name the Michigan City High School tennis courts in honor of Norm Bruemmer is set for Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. preceding a boy’s tennis match. In the case of bad weather, the ceremony will be moved inside to Heritage Hall.

Anyone who would like to contribute to the signage and ceremony in Coach Bruemmer’s honor can make checks payable to MCHS and send c/o Treasurer, 8466 W. Pahs Rd., Michigan City IN 46360 by Sept. 13. Put Bruemmer Courts on the notation line. Any extra money will be divided equally between the girls and boys programs.

 

Parish Picnic is Sept. 28 at St. Stan's

MICHIGAN CITY – St. Stanislaus will host its annual Parish Picnic following the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Parish Hall. The menu will include BBQ pulled pork, sauerkraut with sausage, corn on the cob, potatoes and side. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under and are available by pre-order only. Tickets are available in the School Office, Parish Office and in the back of the church after all masses.

 

Swanson Center hosts anniversary gala

MICHIGAN CITY – The Swanson Center for Behavioral Health will host a 50th Anniversary Gala on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa. Entertainment will be provided by Chicago's Becca Kaufman Orchestra. Individual tickets are $125 or $1,500 for a table of 10.
