State Rep. Jim Pressel, R-Rolling Prairie, presented the Circle of Corydon award to Julie West-Schroeder for her work with the Play for Jake Foundation on Saturday, June 29, at the 6th annual Play for Jake Golf Outing in La Porte. Schroeder created the foundation after her son, Jake West, died suddenly during football practice from an undetected heart condition in 2013. From left are Brett Schroeder, Julie's husband; her daughter, Courtney West; West-Schroeder; and Pressel. “Julie has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of this important issue across our state,” Pressel said. “I have no doubt she has saved and changed many lives since she first started the Play for Jake Foundation.” Thousands of Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan school-age students have been screened and many undiagnosed heart conditions have been detected thanks to her advocacy and leadership, Pressel said.
