COOLSPRING TWP. – An employee of a recycling and waste disposal company was struck by a vehicle while working in rural Coolspring Township on Friday, and police are looking for the driver, who did not stop.

About 1 p.m. Friday, the victim was working in the 2900 North block of CR-950W, according to La Porte County Sheriff's Capt, Derek Allen.

The employee had gotten out of the company truck and had just finished emptying the receptacle at home on the east side of the roadway, he said.

"After placing a recycling container back on the lawn, the employee turned back to the west and was suddenly struck by a northbound pickup," Allen said. "The pickup failed to stop and left the scene."

Deputy Alex Clemons responded but was not able to locate the pickup, which is described as an orange Dodge Ram pickup with an Indiana license plate.

As a result of the crash, the victim sustained minor injuries, Allen said.

The sheriff’s department is seeking assistance from the public in locating the orange pickup, which which may have sustained damage to the passenger side mirror and door frame area, he said.

Anyone with information related to the crash and/or suspect vehicle should contact Deputy Clemons by calling 219-326-7700 or by email at aclemons@lcso.in.gov.
