SPRINGFIELD TWP. – A rural La Porte County woman is behind bars, charged with stabbing a man who was found by police at a Springfield Township gas station.
La Porte County Sheriff's deputies were called about 2:21 a.m. Monday to Gallops Marathon at 1877 W. U.S. 20 in Springville in unincorporated Springfield Township for a man found bleeding, according to Sheriff's Capt. Derek Allen.
Officers found the injured man and "were quickly able to determine the subject had been stabbed, resulting in upper body injuries," Allen said. The victim was transported to an area hospital by La Porte County EMS.
Members of the Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division were activated and their investigation "quickly led to a residence in the Woodberry Mobile Home Park" in the 900 block of West CR-650N, less than two miles from the gas station, Allen said.
Shortly after arriving, Shannon N. King, 37, was taken into custody.
Det. Mike Raymer presented facts to the La Porte County Prosecutor's office, and on Tuesday, Judge Michael Bergerson in La Porte County Superior Court I found probable cause to charge King with felony counts of aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, according to the sheriff's department.
King is being held in the La Porte County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond, pending an appearance Thursday in Superior Court 1, according to the sheriff's office.
The investigation remains ongoing and active, Allen said.
