MICHIGAN CITY — For the first time, the United Nations has designated a special day, April 21, 2018, for the world to celebrate creativity and innovation.

“We have a day!” announced Marci Segal, founder of World Creativity and Innovation Week at the International Creativity Expert to Expert Exchange Oct. 15.

The conference is sponsored by the International Center for Studies in Creativity and Change Leadership at Buffalo State College in New York. Attendees included creativity and innovation scholars, educators, business and community leaders, and practitioners, including Cindy Hedge, founder of the Michigan City-based Center for Creative Solutions, Inc.

Northwest Indiana has been marking World Creativity and Innovation Week for the past 8 years. Sponsored by the Center for Creative Solutions, regional businesses, organizations, schools and government, as partners with the Center, have hosted public events and activities.

Planning for 2018 with community partners is well under way, according to William Halliar, chair for the Week’s committee. “Everyone is welcome to join the effort to recognize all the innovation that is going on in Northwest Indiana,” he added.

The week will kick off on April 13, 2018, with a community breakfast and end with Agricultural Days at La Porte County’s Pioneer Land on April 21. This year’s theme is “Create, Connect, Celebrate!”
