MCCEC grant applications back online

MICHIGAN CITY – Michigan City Community Enrichment Corporation grant applications are available online again at mccec.com for submitting 501(c)(3) grant applications. The Board of Directors apologizes for any inconvenience in submitting applications for the 2020-21 grant awards. A new deadline has been set for submitting grant applications, which is Friday, Dec. 6, at 11:59 p.m. Anyone with questions should email mccec@emichigancity.com.

 

Fannie May sales help Service League

MICHIGAN CITY – The Service League of Michigan City is having a sweet fundraiser on Saturday at Fannie May at U.S. 12 and U.S. 421. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m, the non-profit all-volunteer group will receive a percentage of the proceeds of all sales. A paper voucher is available at the Service League office at 301 Garfield St. or can be shown on your cell phone by going to the Facebook site of Service League of Michigan City.

The organization – supported by monetary donations, memorials, membership dues and grants – been helping Michigan City residents for 81 years by lending medical equipment at no charge to any City resident for use in their home. This includes canes, crutches, walkers, shower stools and chairs, walkers with seats, transfer benches, commodes, elevated toilet seats, reachers, shoe horns, rehab weights, exercise peddlers, bedside tables and blanket elevators.

 

Porter Police accepting applications

PORTER – The Porter Police Department is accepting applications for the position of patrol officer for candidates to be placed on a waiting list for expected resignations or retirements. Candidates must be at least 21 and no older than 35 unless currently employed by another department; be a U.S. citizen, high school graduate, have a valid driver's license, and a good reputation. Candidates must pass physical and written examinations, extensive background check and police board interview.

Starting salary is $46,000 for probationary officers, and $58,500 after completing the police academy, field training and probation. Applications are available online at townofporter.com, and must be submitted by 4 p.m. Dec. 20.

 

 

County Park Board meeting canceled

La PORTE – The La Porte County Park Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. The next meeting will be Feb. 4t.

 

LP High choirs to perform

La PORTE – The Choirs of La Porte High School will present their Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday. It includes a variety of music for the holiday season, from the traditional serene opening to rousing renditions of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" and "Sleigh Ride." All of the Concert Choirs will perform at the free show in the newly renovated Performing Arts Center.

 

Sewer & Water District meeting

La PORTE – The La Porte County Regional Sewer & Water District will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday in Conference Room 3 of the La Porte County Complex at 809 State St. in La Porte. 

Mix, Mingle & Jingle Party

MICHIGAN CITY – The Michigan City Chamber of Commerce will hosts its 11th annual Mix, Mingle & Jingle Party on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa's Stardust Event Center. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m., with live music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 including  a series of food stations, or $90 with food stations and open bar.
