Footlight to present 'Musical of Musicals'

Footlight Players' "Musical of Musicals: The Musical" will feature, from left, Amy Crane, John Hutchinson, Hillary Havlin and Grant Fitch.

MICHIGAN CITY — Opening on May 3 and running for three weekends, the Footlight Players of Michigan City will present the farcical musical by Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell, titled "Musical of Musicals: The Musical."

According to a Footlight Players press release, the show is structured into five vignettes, each of which is a short musical parodying…yet still paying homage to…five of the greatest musical/comedy writers and lyricists, such as Rogers and Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim. All the stories have the same melodramatic theme and plot: “I can’t pay the rent! You must pay the rent! I’ll pay the rent!" and each have their own hysterical events, mishaps and consequences that the Footlight Players say will have you laughing out loud and humming along with the music.

Joe Blanchard is a first time director, however has proved himself by being assistant director for "Moonglow" and "Dark of the Moon," Footlight said. Along with his Assistant Director Candace Archer and Vocal/Music Director Lee Meyer, he has cast the four lead roles with some of the best talent in the region. They include Hillary Havlin and John Hutchinson as the ingenues, June and Will with Grant Fitch and Amy Crane as their counter parts, Jitter and Abby.

The strong and talented chorus is comprised of Kristin Allison, Andy and Wil Crane, Alayna Lauritsen, Kenzie Losinski, Kathy Lute, Cortney Mason, Matthew Ruiz and Amanda Sixbury. The award winning crew for this production include Emmy Reigel/choreographer, Bobbi Lauritsen/production manager, Lighting Designer Chris West, Set Designer Ken Siegfried, Costume Designer Terri Dale, Scenic Artist Chris Whybrew, Set Dresser John Hutchinson, Ella Crane as lighting operator and hair/make-up design by Emma Blanchard. Michele Hyland will be in charge of this crazy group of characters as the stage manager.

The show dates are May 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 with a $10 price for children 12 and under.
