Chamber honors local businesses

LA PORTE – The Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce's 15th annual Salute to Business Luncheon took place at the Heston Hills Event Center on Nov. 15

Awards were given to local businesses that make a significant contribution to the community, be it in employment growth, economic growth and longevity.

The small business of the year award went to Salon Rogue, a hair cutting/styling Aveda salon. Midsized business of the year was Winn Machine, a precision fabrication and machinist factory. The large business of the year award went to First Source Bank.

Another award, called the Workforce Development of the Year award, which expands the bridge between school and the workforce gap. Arconic won the award with more than 300 hires. Arconic manufactures precision grade aircraft components.

For the community organization of the year award, the Chamber of Commerce picked the company Paladin, which is an advocate for disabled persons with both day programs, job placement and residential rehab that is 24-hour care.

The Outstanding Young La Portean award had two recipients. The first was Erin Parker, who was picked by the La Porte Chamber of Commerce. The second winner was sponsored by the JC's, who picked Catherine Mrozinski.

Another individual, Jimmy Pressel, won the Blue-Collar worker of the year award.

Keynote speaker, Blair Milo, was unable to attend do to complications.
