Marquette to host Denim Day Oct. 10
MICHIGAN CITY — Marquette Catholic High School has invited students, staff and faculty to don pink tops, blue jeans on Oct. 10 in exchange for a minimum $5 donation to the American Cancer Society; $700 fundraising goal set
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 266,000 women in America are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. And of those diagnosed, 1 in 6 are expected to die from the disease.
Marquette and the American Cancer Society will continue their partnership Oct. 10 when they celebrate the school’s annual Denim Day. According to Marquette, since the American Cancer Society launched Denim Days in 1996, participants have raised close to $100 million for breast cancer research.
Marquette has set a goal of raising $700 this year. If all 240 students participate in this casual event, they expect to double their goal.
In addition to dressing down, students who donate at least $5 will be eligible to receive pink wristbands and memorial patches.
This year, the Denim Day festivities extend past the school day. Marquette invites all to attend Marquette’s home volleyball match versus South Bend Adams as the Blazers host their annual “Dig Pink” Night. The Blazers will be sporting their special pink jerseys in recognition of the event. The junior varsity match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with varsity to follow.
