MICHIGAN CITY — It's 27 bands, and 9 hours of music.

And it's returning to Michigan City for its second year.

It's the Swale Music Festival, and it's being brought back by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association on June 8 from 1 to 10 p.m. at Westcott Park on Michigan Boulevard.

According to a press release from the Mainstreet Association, the Swale Music Festival offers an opportunity for unique and diverse national and regional acts to be heard in Michigan City. This event will highlight an eclectic mix of 27 rock, soul, punk, folk, hiphop, and hard-to-label acts. Musical styles that have few other regional venues are heavily featured. Some highlights include local rock band Cloakroom who have released two critically acclaimed albums, Chicago soul act Jordanna, local folk group, The Pinola Plowboys featuring Peter Nye, and Sirius Blvck from Gary/Indianapolis.

Swale Music Fest Committee Chair and MCMA Vice President Shane Watson, said of the event, “MCMA strives to bring positive, invigorating and truly unique experiences to residents and visitors of Michigan City alike. Swale serves to mimic the spirit of Michigan’s City’s Uptown Arts District by bringing a collection of performers and genres that underscore the importance of art and diversity, while simultaneously embracing the performance as spectacle. I cannot wait.”

According to the release, this event offers a unique opportunity for local musicians and residents. Local acts can network and perform next to nationally touring acts. While locals can come and enjoy the area’s most eclectic music festival. With 27 acts performing 30 minute sets, there will be something for most people to enjoy.
