Rahsaan C. Smith graduates basic training
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Airman Rahsaan C. Smith II graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Smith is the son of Destiny M. Hurt and Lebritte R. Worlds of Michigan City.
He is a 2018 graduate of Fort Zumwalt East High School, St. Peters, Missouri.
Citizen-soldiers promoted at culminating training
WESTVILLE — Indiana National Guard Private 1st Class Matthew Berns of Westville received his new rank during a promotion ceremony at Fort Hood, Texas, on May 31. Berns, a culinary specialist, is one of approximately 600 citizen-soldiers with the 38th Infantry Division who is preparing to deploy to Kuwait to provide command and control of nearly 9,000 U.S. service members to foster partnerships among allied nations.
