Friends of the Library

The Friends are having a fundraiser. When you bring the flyer (available online or at the library) and purchase Fannie May treats, 30 percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the Library.

 

Tax Assistance Volunteers Needed

Each year the library participates in the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The library is looking for volunteers to offer help at least one day a week during the tax season (Feb-April). The IRS provides some training and you must pass the VITA test through the intermediate level. Testing and training are online. For more information, call 219-873-3049.

 

 

 

 

Youth Services

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Register for this free program designed to promote language and a love of reading in children. Your child will receive a special surprise (choice of an age-appropriate book or CD) for each 100 books that are read to them (or that they read on their own). For children ages birth through entering kindergarten.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

4 p.m. Tinkercad — Registration Required. Design, remix, and explore your creativity with Tinkercad! Tinkercad is a free online collection of software tools that help people all over the world think, create, and make. This session is for children ages 10-18 and is an introduction to anyone that is curious about, or interested in, 3D design, art, and printing. No prior experience necessary. Registered participants will get a 3D print of their creations. MCPL 3-D printing rules apply. Register at the Youth Services desk or call 219-873-3045 for more info. Space is limited. Printing fee waived for this program.

5 p.m. Graphic Novel Club — Join the Graphic Novels Book Club for 13-18 year olds. In an inexplicable worldwide event, 43 extraordinary children were spontaneously born to women who'd previously shown no signs of pregnancy. Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of the children; when asked why, his only explanation was, "To save the world." Stop by Youth Services for more information.
