La PORTE — The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte and La Porte Hospital Auxiliary awarded 32 students with scholarships totaling $68,500 at a scholarship reception on June 4.

HFL and the Auxiliary offer scholarship awards to students that either reside or work in the La Porte County, a tradition started in 1983. These scholarships provide financial assistance to students pursuing careers in health science occupations.

Maria Fruth, president and CEO of the Healthcare Foundation, thanked the scholarship committees: “HFL gratefully acknowledges the time and effort of our foundation scholarship committee members: Jane Nelson (chair), Kathy Bernel, Katrina Langford, and Linda Satkoski.

“Seventeen students pursuing a career in healthcare are receiving $55,000 to offset the cost of their studies. We also acknowledge and thank the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary scholarship selection committee, chaired by Jean Burns and Judie Hickey, Suzanne Burns, and Becky Jensen. Scholarships are in investment in a healthier future. Congratulations to all recipients.”
