La PORTE — Nature lovers, come join La Porte New Church for their First Day of Spring event to discover the abundance of natural beauty in the area.

Dr. Michael Huft will present a program, “Wildflowers of Northern Indiana,” showing photos representative of the rich diversity of plants in the area on Wednesday evening, March 20, 6:30-8 p.m., at La Porte New Church, 812 Indiana Avenue, next to the La Porte County Public Library. The public is welcome to this free program offered to the community.

Starting with early spring wildflowers, the presentation will take attendees through many interesting species, both common and rare, that add to the beauty of the natural surroundings. Michael is the editor of the quarterly scientific journal, "The Great Lakes Botanist," and is a research associate at the Field Museum in Chicago.

The New Church, a welcoming, progressive, and inclusive Christian ministry, holds contemporary and traditional worship services on Sundays at 10 a.m. along with Children’s Sunday School. Adult Sunday School is from 9 to 9:45 a.m. For more information about the church and its wedding and grief support ministries, contact Rev. Kit Billings at 362-1959 or email: revkit123@gmail.com.
