Mt. Zion to celebrate 100 years

MICHIGAN CITY — Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 123 Helen St., Michigan City, is planning a series of special events to mark its centennial this weekend.

• Saturday: 100th Anniversary Banquet at 6 p.m. at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa, with the Rev. Alvin Love of Lilydale First Baptist Church in Chicago and former faith advisor for President Obama. Food is included and cost is $50.

• Sunday: 10 a.m. service with with the Rev. James Lane of Pleasant Hill Church and New Hope Pastor Jacarra Williams. Food will be served. 3 p.m. service with Dr. William Foster, former president of the Salem District Association of Baptist Churches and former president of the Illinois State Convention of Baptist Churches.


LPHS Mixed Chorale performing at First Friday in the Chapel at LP Hospital

La PORTE – The La Porte High School Mixed Chorale will perform in the La Porte Hospital’s Chapel on noon Friday, Oct. 4. This group of advanced singers, sophomore through senior, performs several times throughout the year at concerts and contest events. 

The La Porte High School Mixed Chorale is one of the six choral ensembles at La Porte High School. The group has been under the direction of Mr. Tom Coe for 21 years and is accompanied by Jane DeVries. They will be performing the songs they’ve prepared for the state choral competition in Indianapolis.

Coe has been the choral director at La Porte High School for 21 years. Coe has been a member of the South Shore Choral Artists and South Bend Chamber Singers, as well as the American Choral Directors Association and the Indiana Music Educators Association.
