Youth Services

Check out the library’s Makerspace for kids and teens, open in the Youth Services area! The Makerspace is a place where young people can tinker, design, craft, create, and explore. It includes a variety of equipment and projects for guided exploration and hands-on learning in the STEAM areas (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). The Makerspace is open to kids ages 6 through 18 (if still in high school). Open lab hours are every Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.

12:30 p.m. Gentle Flow Yoga — Certified yoga instructor Lauralee Sikorski, who has taught over 5,000 hours of classes, will lead a free gentle flow yoga with emphasis on deep breathing and releasing stress. Bring your own mat, wear comfortable attire and come on an empty stomach.

Tuesday, March 5

1 p.m. Story Time — Enjoy stories, songs, activities, crafts and more with the Story Time Crew! Please arrive a few minutes early to receive your child’s name tag. This program is for children ages birth through 5 years, accompanied by an adult.

5:30 p.m. Needle Art League — The Needle Arts League of Michigan City promotes all forms of needle arts. Membership is open to anyone interested in needle arts such as crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch, crewel, tatting and other hand stitching. All skill levels and ages are welcome. An exchange of skills and materials is encouraged. For information, call 219-873-3049.

Saturday, March 9

10 a.m. Coastline Children’s Film Festival — We will showcase short films by area children 18 years and younger. Also shown will be short films for the Young Filmmakers Competition. Light refreshments will be served. This is a family program.

Saturday, March 9

2 p.m. The Magic of Kalita! — Matt Kalita returns for his annual magic show following the Michigan City St. Patrick’s Day parade. This is amazing magical fun for all ages!
