MICHIGAN CITY — More than 300 people attended Friendship Botanic Gardens’ fourth annual fundraising event “La Vie en Rose Garden Ball” at Blue Chip Casino on June 8. The ball, which was organized by Friendship Botanic Gardens Board of Directors and dedicated volunteers, was an evening devoted to the preservation and development of the Gardens.

Throughout the course of the evening, organizers educated attendees on the Gardens’ legacy and the projects and renovations that are expected to enrich its future. Community members were brought together to contribute to the growth and revitalization of the Gardens.

The La Vie en Rose Garden Ball began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and included a formal dinner and dessert, silent and live auction bidding, paddle raising, and dancing to live music from Huston and the FX.

At the ball, John Leinweber, Friendship Botanic Gardens Board of Directors president, announced Barry Criswell as 2019 Volunteer of the Year. The guest speaker was Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer.

Four premium travel packages were up for grabs in the live auction, which included trips to South Africa, Italy, Ireland and a resort in Florida. All proceeds from the event contribute to the continued restoration and maintenance of Friendship Botanic Gardens. These funds allow the Gardens to grow toward the goal of becoming the region’s destination for community members, making it a place for beauty, peace, tranquility, meditation, and health and wellness.
