Photo courtesy Franciscan Health Michigan CityDr. Adam Sergiwa (second from right), a pediatrician at Franciscan Health Michigan City, received the hospital’s 2018 St. Luke Award during a general medical staff meeting last month. The award recognizes physicians for teamwork and cooperation with nursing staff members, and is named for Luke, patron saint of doctors. Trish Weber, hospital vice president of operations and chief nursing officer, presented the award. She said that among Sergiwa’s nominations, nurses said he “values their opinions and takes the time to help teach them, is loved by patients and their families, has a contagious smile, makes the doctor-nurse relationship relaxed and easy, and is someone nurses want to work with and alongside.” Sergiwa, who has spent the last eight years with Franciscan Health, said he was “surprised, shocked and excited” to receive the honor. Also shown are Dr. David Fumo, left, medical staff president; and Dean Mazzoni, hospital president and CEO.
