La Porte County Convention & Visitors Bureau is taking donations for the 2015 Maple City Grand Prix Silent Auction. All proceeds from this auction will be donated to the La Porte Area Lake Association.

The La Porte Area Lake Association is a volunteer organization, comprised of businesses and residents, both on the lake and surrounding neighborhoods, who are concerned about the quality and health of our lakes. To ensure continued enjoyment of these lakes, the La Porte Area Lake Association monitors issues and problems that could affect everything and everyone that uses these lakes from recreational activity to native wildlife.

The US F1 Powerboat Tour returns to La Porte May 29-May 31. The Third Annual Maple City Grand Prix this year adds fireworks and flyovers and will once again feature "Meet the Racers" events, a downtown boat parade on Friday evening, a family friendly kids play zone, and live music at the Stone Lake event site. You can get your official race schedule by stopping by our office, 4073 S. Franklin St. (Marquette Mall), Michigan City or you can download the schedule at www.maplecitygrandprix.com

Admission is free, parking is free and there will be free shuttles available from the Fairgrounds.

According to tourism and race officials, the 2014 annual three-day tunnel boat race and festival attracted nearly 20,000 spectators and pumped more than $1.5 million into the local economy. That tops the previous inaugural numbers of 15,000 and $1 million.

I encourage you to consider taking advantage of this opportunity to promote your business by donating to the silent auction.

If you have any questions or require any additional information about this opportunity contact Jane Daley at 872-5055 or jane@michigancitylaporte.com

Also, we need volunteers to help us make this a successful event. Our goal is to make this a fun and exciting event in the City of La Porte and with your help we can make this happen.

Due to the expanse of Soldiers Memorial Park and the many entrances into the park, we will need several volunteers throughout the 3-day event to work at the entrance gates. We envision three-hour shifts, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day, except Saturday that lasts until 10 p.m.

We personally encourage you to become a volunteer. This will be a fun event which will help the local economy.

To get signed up to volunteer or for more information on the Maple City Grand Prix volunteer program, please contact the Visit Michigan City La Porte Convention and Visitors Bureau at 872-5055 or email Aaron Collings at aaron@michigancitylaporte.com.
