Tom and Joanne McDonald celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 22.

The Long Beach residents were married Aug. 22, 1959, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Weirton, West Virginia. They met in a religion class in the College of Steubenville, Steubenville, Ohio, and came to Michigan City in 1964 when Tom got a job at Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor.

The couple lived in Michigan City from 1964 to 1984, moved to Bethlehem Pennsylvania from 1984 to 1995, then moved back to Michigan City from 1996 to the present.

Tom is a retired steel executive (Bethlehem Steel-30 yr, Roll and Hold, Arlington Metals -10yr) and Joanne was an elementary school teacher spanning 50 years (in Ohio, PA, and Queens and Notre Dame in Michigan City, IN)

They are active parishioners at Notre Dame Catholic Church and previous active parishioners of Queen of All Saints

They have travelled the world, but love their beach life in Michigan City the best

They have five children, Pat (Robin) McDonald of Chicago, Kathy (Scott) Ritchie of Mount Prospect, Illinois, Steve (deceased 2018) (fiancee Muffy Srinivasan) of Michigan City, Mike (Helena) of Michigan City, and Erin (Sean) McIntrye of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and 12 grandchildren. 

The couple celebrated with a vow renewal at Notre Dame, followed by a family party.
