Lawrence Alan Zimmer and Thaddeus John Perzanowski, "married" for 28 years, had their union recognized by the State of Indiana in a short ceremony in their home Nov. 1, 2014, their anniversary. Attorney and friend, Steven A. Hale, officiated. A small group of friends were in attendance and helped to celebrate the occasion afterward.

Zimmer is the owner of NPLH, Ind., a residential design firm in Chicago and Michigan City and has been in practice for 35 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and received a B.S. in architectural studies.

Perzanowski is the owner of Talk to Ted, Inc., an alternative counseling and psychotherapy practice in Michigan City and Chicago and has been in practice for 36 years. He's a member of the Board of Directors at Dunebrook, a child abuse prevention agency serving Michigan City, La Porte and surrounding communities.

Originally from Skokie, Illinois, and Chicago, respectively, Larry and Ted moved to Michigan City full-time in 2003. They met in 1986 at a conference they were both attending at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
