Jeanette and Ralph Leonard

Jeanette and Ralph Leonard will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Sept. 14 with family.

They graduated from Elston Senior High School in Michigan City in 1941. Near the end of World War II, Ralph and Jeanette met in Washington D.C. and were later married in the Naval Communications Annex in Washington D.C.

Ralph was in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Quantico, Virginia, after serving three years in the South Pacific during World War II. He also served in the Korean Conflict.

Jeanette was serving in the U.S. Navy WAVES, in Washington D.C., as a cryptographer at the Naval Annex.

Ralph retired from NIPSCO after 37 years and Jeanette retired from Pullman after 18 years. They have two children, James (Cristina) Leonard, Michigan City, and Karen (Jerry) Lindley, South Bend. They have three grandsons and three great-grandsons.
